The Long.

I was born in Metro Detroit - Daughter of a hard-working single mom who fueled (and funded) my love of travel and cooking. We spent all of our free time in the kitchen experimenting with new cuisines and techniques. When I was a sophomore in high school I decided I was going Vegan for health reasons. Back then (1998), we didn’t know much about it and how to find healthy alternatives, so we went to work building our own. When I brought my lunches to school, my friends were always curious to see what was on the menu that day. They’d try our concoctions and be amazed that vegan chili, muffins, and tacos could taste even better than their conventional counterparts.

In 2000, I took my first euro trip with my high school Spanish class. My mom saved for that trip for 3 years. I traveled all over Spain with my classmates for 10 days, and then my mom came to meet me and we continued to Germany, Italy, France, and then some…backpacking, sleeping on trains, and most importantly, trying all the culinary delights each city had to offer. That trip changed my life. I returned my freshman year of college in between semesters to be a personal cook/nanny for a family just outside of Madrid. When I returned to the states, I took a job as head cook in a fine-dining restaurant, learning the efficiencies and consistency it takes to thrive in a fast-paced environment. I spent several years alternating between private cook, restaurant head cook, and events caterer.

Flash-forward to some health issues that centered around weight and inflammation (infertility, thyroid, auto-immune, etc), I started to educate myself on what I could control to improve those. Food was the standout solution to me. Once again, I got in the kitchen and went to work. Experimenting with ingredients and techniques to heal my body and reach my personal goals . I was able to make a massive difference in my health (and had a miracle baby). My mission is to share that nutrition knowledge and passion for delicious, healthy foods with those who need direction or just a break from the kitchen!
